Programs

flagship series

Chinatown Fridays

Recurring dinners where people can come eat, drink, meet new friends, and support small restaurants in Chinatown.

Chinatown Fridays is where it all began: what started as a casual hangout after our safety patrols in Chinatown has become our flagship program. Over time, we recognized that safety patrols were not a long term solution for mitigating crime in Chinatown, and we wanted to create a positive event that would bring lasting, positive change.

H(API) Hour

H(API) Hour was originally created by San Francisco's City Attorney David Chiu and 7 others years ago to bring together young Asian professionals living in the city. We are excited to revive this event series as a way to support the #StopAsianHate movement and bring attention to young Asian activists!

This event will take place at an Asian-owned business located within the San Francisco city limits. Come out and bring your friends to learn more about how to become more civically engaged as a community leader.

Positive CreAsians

Our community has been through a lot of tough times and a lot of survival and with the pandemic we experienced Asian hate and violence towards our community and rather being alone and sad about it we chose to turn to community by creating these safe space events. Dear Community started this mental health program because there's a clear need in our community. It's time to acknowledge mental health.  In this program, you will get to meet Asian creatives across different forms of expression and learn about how their art impacts their mental health. Attendees also get the opportunity to participate in a Q&A panel hosted by our sponsors, Kaiser Permanante.

Dear Community Service

Dear Community Service is a quarterly program where we work with local businesses to organize giveaways to our neighborhoods in need. In the past we have worked with Salesforce who donated Emergency Go-Bags to be handed out to businesses in Chinatown. We are always looking for volunteers and partners for this event, please reach out to hello@dearcommunity.org if you are interested!

"What’s for Lunch?"

We share stories and food of local AAPI owned restaurants with busy working professionals (right in YOUR office!) who want to support small AAPI-owned restaurants with their colleagues. We’ll help you choose the restaurant, order and pick up the food, and give a presentation about the featured restaurant and our community work. If you or your company is interested in partnering with us, please reach out at hello@dearcommunity.org!

Supper Together Series

Chinatown Supper Together & Sunset Supper Together

In partnership with TogetherSF, we run a half-day tour that takes people off the beaten path in Chinatown and the Sunset. Our interactive stops focus on historical, creative, and culminate in a yummy dinner.

Sample itinerary from 5/21/22 in SF Chinatown

  1. A talk by Roger Pincombe and Alice Chu, the new owners of the historic Great Star Theater

  2. A photo exhibition by Zabrina Deng celebrating the women of Chinatown;

  3. A performance by rapper and filmmaker Son of Paper, and

  4. Dinner at G&Y Bakery, a newly opened Hong Kong-style restaurant.
